Hug the bear -- don't poke it

First I would like to thank the people at Mountain project (and those who have posted there) for their time and effort. To the MP crew: the amount of hard work and vast contributions that you all have made to the climbing community is amazing. The time and effort to make the MP web site as successful, entertaining and informative as it is, is due in a large part to MP Administrators hard work and careful judicious editing to maintain a balanced forum for discussion free of too much controversy. A special thanks to Morgan Patterson, administrator of the Ct climbing scene on Mountain Project .

TO BE CLEAR:

I have never placed or chopped a bolt.

I have and do:

1. Find and Recon a line. Attempt it ground up first. If it goes, it is a

First Ascent. If not I :

2. Rap clean, remove loose rock, scale, dirt, vegetation, brush and clean.

3. Send without weighting the gear, rope or system (often with out chalk).

4. Repeat the line, checking placements, trying different moves to confirm a grade.

5. Name the line (most of the time I already had one in mind)

Be happy, these are fresh new routes.

Every climb is a first ascent for YOU, the first time you do it.

Some Rock that is very loose may remain, If I did not need to touch it, I didn't.

careful route finding and rope managment skills are needed...

Many of my routes around the country have been retro bolted.

Climb safe, climb at your ability. The style that was used in the first ascent of a climb, should not be the only factor as to futrue protection. Limited risk reduction, done with care, can help or hurt access.

You all have my respect as fellow climbers for having the balls to do it. Any way you get it done is fine with me.

Don’t suck me into fights and controversy. I am pro climbing: any and all of it.
